ALX
The ALX pickup mode is designed around the sharper, more contemporary response associated with Alexi's later guitar setup. It gives the booster a focused starting point with immediate attack and a strong upper-mid presence.
More than a static EQ preset, the pickup stage is designed to respond to the incoming signal before it reaches the booster — helping the whole front end behave as a connected system.
J50BC emulation
Switch to the J50BC emulation when you want the more classic pickup-side character associated with the earlier version of this signal-chain idea.
Use it with the booster for the complete ReaperBoost1K front end, or bypass the pickup emulation and let your own guitar feed the booster directly.

Is this an official Alexi Laiho or Children of Bodom product?
No. ReaperBoost1K is an independent HALF//SUN DSP product inspired by the historically associated guitar hardware, signal-chain behaviour and tonal characteristics. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Alexi Laiho, Children of Bodom, or any referenced manufacturer.
Do I need the J50BC or ALX pickup modes?
No. They are there when you want the pickup-side response included in the chain. You can also bypass pickup emulation and let your own guitar feed the booster directly.
Can I use it with ReaperSuite or another amp sim?
Yes. Put ReaperBoost1K before ReaperSuite or the amp simulator of your choice. Its job is to shape what the amp receives.
Does ReaperBoost1K run standalone?
No. ReaperBoost1K is currently supplied as AU / VST3 on macOS and VST3 on Windows and requires a compatible plugin host.
